We are pleased to inform you that the Ontario Education Workers` Alliance (EWAO), the Ontario government and the Associations of the Board of Directors have reached an interim agreement. As a Catholic school board, we respect the collective bargaining process and hope that an agreement will be reached between all parties. Ocsta announced that OCSTA, the Ontario Catholic Teachers` Association (OECD) and the provincial government have successfully negotiated an interim collective agreement on essential conditions for basic, secondary and casual teachers in Ontario Catholic schools. The details of the agreement remain confidential until they are ratified by all parties. The Ontario Teachers` Association of Ontario (OECD) today announced plans to start work on Monday, January 13, 2020 if an agreement is not reached. It is part of the collective legal negotiation.

    In the event of a general strike on Monday, parents and guardians are informed directly by a courier before the start of the school day. As a Catholic school board, we respect the rights of our workers` unions and are pleased that a central agreement has been reached across the province for education workers represented by CUPE. All DCDSB primary and secondary teachers are represented by the Ontario Catholic Teachers` Association (OECD). As part of the legal negotiations, OECD members voted in favour of strike action if no agreement was reached. Negotiations with the province are ongoing and there are steps and deadlines to be met before work action can take place. The Board of Directors will inform about the status of schools as soon as we receive a notification. We will communicate directly with parents and legal guardians through our school messaging service and publish updates to www.dcdsb.ca/collectivebargaining.
